An $18.5 million deal between BINGO Industries and LGI has set a new benchmark for the treatment of toxic landfill biogas and the benefits this can bring to local communities.
Harmful methane emissions from the Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park (and Landfill) are being extracted and burnt via 60 new gas wells and a new flare. This will further enhance the $5M in landfill gas infrastructure already installed in previous years.
A four-megawatt renewable power station currently under construction will then amplify the benefits even further, supplying reliable, renewable power to BINGO (available 24/7) behind the metre to the site and its statewide network of transfer stations.
These are exciting times that also represent LGI’s first power generation project with a private-sector waste management company.

The agreement with LGI will enable us to put that gas to a more beneficial use while reducing our emissions and achieving circular outcomes. It will also see us produce renewable energy, which will be used to power our Eastern Creek Ecology Park and broader New South Wales network, as well as feeding surplus renewable electricity into the National Electricity Market (NEM).
It’s a phenomenal result as we work with a leading Australian private waste operator to enhance carbon abatement and sustainable energy practices in the region. LGI will upgrade and expand the biogas system and to install and operate a new state of the art biogas to renewable 4MW power station project.
The Eastern Creek Recycling Ecology Park is now one of the most advanced waste recycling facilities in Australia delivering the highest quality, environmentally sustainable solutions to Sydney’s mounting waste problem.
As it continues to power the Ecology Park itself, the surplus energy will contribute to the National Electricity Market, providing enough energy to power at least 7,000 homes each year!
